Before your menstrual period, the levels of the female sex hormone progesterone drops. Norethisterone works by sustaining the womb lining and delays a period until you stop taking the tablets.
Norethisterone is also present in some contraceptive pills and hormone replacement therapies for menopause. The drug is not a contraceptive.
Each tablet contains 5mg of Norethisterone.
Norethisterone tablets also contain lactose, maize starch, and magnesium stearate.
Some people may experience side effects from using Norethisterone tablets. Stop using and consult your doctor immediately if any of the following happens:
- A severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face and wheezing.
- Thrombosis (a blood clot in the leg or lungs).
- Yellowing of the skin or eyes.
- A significant rise in blood pressure or persistent headaches
