What Is Elocon Cream?

Elocon eczema cream is a potent topical corticosteroid and an anti-inflammatory treatment for eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. It reduces the discomfort that comes with redness, itching, and sore skin from eczema. Elocon cream is specially formulated to deal with skin and scalp conditions. It is elementary and practical to use. Elocon lotion and cream are safe for use on the moist scalp. The ointment is better for dry, scaling and fissured lesions.

How Does Elocon Cream Work?

Merck Sharp & Dohme manufactures Elocon cream. It contains mometasone furoate. Elocon has vasoconstrictive and antipruritic properties. Vasoconstrictive means it causes blood vessels that cause inflammation to narrow.   Antipruritic means it reduces itching. By combining the two, Elocon cream slows down the growth of skin cells and moisturizes them. This reduces irritation and swelling, so the sore skin returns to its healthy natural state.

Don’t use Elon cream for more than five days. Avoid using the cream if.
  • You have open sores.
  • Do not cover any treated areas with bandages or plasters.
  • Avoid applying the lotion in significant quantities
  • Do not use in or around the eyes, including eyelids.
  • Elocon is not recommended for children under the age of 2.

Directions

Directions for Use

  • Apply a small amount of Elocon cream and rub in the crusty skin until it disappears.
  • Use Elocon cream once daily.
  • Ensure to follow the prescription and complete the entire course of treatment to prevent redness and itchy skin from reoccurring.

Elocon Ingredients

The active ingredient in Elocon is mometasone.  Elocon cream inactive ingredients are isopropyl alcohol, propylene glycol, hydroxypropyl cellulose, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, phosphoric acid, purified water.

Side Effects

Side Effects of Elocon Cream

Side effects when using the cream are very minimal. If you experience any, they may include;
  • Allergic skin reactions like burning, stinging, itching and tingling.
  • Bacterial and secondary skin infections.
  • Acne.
  • Thinning of the skin.
  • Red marks with associated prickly heat.
  • Loss of skin colour.
  • Excessive hair growth.
  • Softening of the skin and stretch marks.
  • Blurred vision.
