What Is Elocon Ointment?

Elocon eczema Ointment is a steroid-based treatment for eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. The ointment deals with redness, itching, and sore skin on the scalp, associated with eczema. Elocon is a topical corticosteroid. This means it is applied to the skin to reduce inflammation. The ointment is recommended for application on crusty, dry, scaling and fissured lesions. Elocon lotions are better on moist skin.

How Does Elocon Ointment Work?

When the skin comes in contact with an allergen, it fights by producing chemicals to react to the irritant. These chemical substances are responsible for swelling and inflammation. Elocon ointment has the active ingredient mometasone furoate. It works by narrowing blood vessels that cause swelling. The cream reduces the production of the chemicals that cause inflammation, itching, redness and pain on sore skin. Thus returning it to a normal and healthy state.

Elocon Warnings

Don’t use Elon Ointment for more than five days. Avoid using the ointment if you meet any of the following conditions:
  • You have susceptible skin.
  • Do not cover any treated areas with bandages or plasters.
  • Avoid applying the lotion in significant quantities.
  • Do not use in or around the eyes, including eyelids.
  • Elocon is not recommended for children under the age of 2.

Directions for Use

  • Apply a small amount of Elon Ointment on your fingers.
  • Gently massage the skin until it disappears.
  • Use Elon Ointment once daily.
  • Ensure to follow the prescription and complete the entire course of treatment to prevent redness and itchy skin from reoccurring.

The active ingredient in Elocon is mometasone.  Elocon Ointment inactive ingredients are hexylene glycol, purified water; phosphoric acid; propylene glycol stearate; white beeswax; soft white paraffin.

Side Effects

Side Effects of Elocon Ointment

Side effects when using the ointment are very minimal. If you experience any, they may include:
  • Allergic skin reactions.
  • Bacterial and secondary skin infections.
  • Acne.
  • Inflammation and infection of the hair follicles.
  • Thinning of the skin.
  • Red marks with associated prickly heat.
  • Loss of skin colour.
  • Burning.
