How Do Zolmitriptan Orodispersible Tablets Work?

Some patients experience a pre-migraine warning, which is known as an aura.  The aura involves a blurred or distorted vision. Although the leading cause of migraines is unknown, the throbbing pain is associated with the widening of blood vessels in the brain.  Zolmitriptan belongs to a group of medicines called triptans. Triptans aim to reverse changes in the brain that can cause migraines. The swelling of blood vessels in the brain, causes the build-up of pressure leading to headaches.  Zolmitriptan Orodispersible stimulates the serotonin receptors in the brain, encouraging the blood vessels to contract and ease this pressure.

Do not take Zolmitriptan if the following applies to you:
  • You are allergic to any of the ingredients.
  • You have high blood pressure.
  • You have heart problems.
  • You have or previously had a stroke.

Directions

How to Take Zolmitriptan Orodispersible Tablets

  • Place the tablet on your tongue, where it will dissolve and be swallowed with the saliva.
  • You can take Zolmitriptan with or without food.
  • Take a second tablet if the migraine is still present after two hours. 
  • Do not take more than two doses of Zolmitriptan in 24 hours.

Zolmitriptan Orodispersible Tablets Ingredients

The active ingredient in each Zolmitriptan tablet is Zolmitriptan 2.5 mg. The inactive ingredients in each tablet are: Mannitol (E421), Cellulose microcrystalline, Crospovidone Type A, Aspartame E951, Silica colloidal anhydrous, Talc, Magnesium Stearate, Peppermint Flavor (containing natural flavoring substances and modified food starch E1450).
