Atorvastatin Tablets are a prescription-only medication that is used in lowering the levels of triglycerides and cholesterol in the blood. It's recommended for those who've tried to lower the levels through lifestyle changes and diet alone but to no avail. The medicine works best when you combine it with a healthy diet and exercise. You most probably will start your dose with 20mg strength of Atorvastatin per day. However,  your pharmacist or GP will adjust your prescription accordingly depending on the level of your cholesterol and needs.

Description

The active ingredient in atorvastatin tablets is atorvastatin, which belongs to a class of drugs known as statins. Statins work by blocking an enzyme in the liver that is responsible for producing cholesterol. This decreases the amount of cholesterol that is available in the body and helps to lower LDL ("bad") cholesterol levels and raise HDL ("good") cholesterol levels. By reducing the amount of LDL cholesterol in the blood, atorvastatin may help to prevent heart disease, stroke, and other serious health problems.

Directions

  • You must take the tablets exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
  • Atorvastatin is typically taken once a day, with or without food.
  • Atorvastatin tablets are available in 10 mg, 20 mg, and 40 mg, strengths.
  • The usual starting dose is 10 or 20 mg taken once daily, but it may be increased based on your response to the medication.
  • Ensure your hands are clean and dry before and after interacting with the tablets.
  • Swallow the tablets with water without crushing or chewing to avoid damaging the components.
  • Try to take Atorvastatin at the same time each day to maintain consistency.
  • If you miss a dose of Atorvastatin, take it as soon as possible unless it is almost time for your next dose, whereby you should skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.
  • Store Atorvastatin at room temperature far from heat, moisture, and light.
