What is Norgeston?
Norgeston is a contraceptive pill used to prevent pregnancy. It only has progesterone as opposed to combined contraceptive pills that have synthetic forms of progesterone and oestrogen. As a result, Norgeston is recommended for women who can’t take pills that have oestrogen in them. Norgeston is highly effective as it has over 99% chances of success. However, it does not protect you from Sexually Transmitted Infections. This means that you still need to use a condom to be protected from STIs.
How it Works
Pregnancy requires both an egg and a sperm. These eggs are released from a woman’s ovary after which it is fertilized by a male sperm. Norgeston works by thickening a woman’s cervical mucus, making it hard for sperms to penetrate into the womb. This means that these sperms are unable to reach the eggs and fertilize them. This pill also helps to prevent ovulation even though it is not as effective at this when compared to combined contraceptive pills.

Norgeston might not be the best choice if you are:
- Are allergic to any of its ingredients
- Have angina pectoris
- Have severe migraines or diabetes
- Have a history of breast cancer, stroke or heart attack
- Have an impaired liver function
- Have or have had a blood clot or blood clotting disorder
- Your blood has high lipid levels.
- Unexplained vaginal bleeding

There are 35 pills in each pack of Norgeston.
- Swallow a pill each day with a glass of water.
- Take your pill at the same time every day.
- Repeat the whole process with a new pack of 35 pills once you finish your pack.
- You are not expected to have a break when you are done with a pack.
