What Is Zolmitriptan?

Zolmitriptan tablets provide effective relief from migraine attacks. The active ingredient is Zolmitriptan, which is a type of medication known as a triptan. Triptans target migraines and relieve headaches by reducing inflammation of the blood vessels in the brain. Each prescription box of Zolmitriptan Tablets contains six tablets. It is suitable for adults between 18 and 65 years.

How Does Zolmitriptan Work?

Migraines cause nausea, light sensitivity, and intense throbbing pain in the head.  Some patients get a pre-migraine warning, which is known as an aura.  The aura involves a blurred or distorted vision. Although a migraine's cause is unclear, the throbbing pain is associated with dilation of blood vessels in the brain.  Zolmitriptan belongs to a group of medicines called serotonin agonists. The remedy works by stimulating the brain's serotonin receptors. The effect is that the affected blood vessels narrow, relieving the associated pain. Zolmitriptan, like other triptans, works best when taken at the onset of an attack.

Do not take Zolmitriptan if the following applies to you:
  • You are allergic to Zolmitriptan or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
  • You have high blood pressure.
  • You have heart problems.
  • You have or previously had a stroke.
  • Consult your doctor if you take any other migraines like migraleve, or other triptan medicines before using Zolmitriptan.

Directions

How to Take Zolmitriptan

  • Swallow one tablet with water.
  • You can take a second tablet if the migraine is still present after two hours. 
  • Do not use more than two doses in one day. 
  • The maximum daily dose is 10 mg.

Ingredients

Zolmitriptan Ingredients

The active ingredient in each Zolmitriptan tablet is Zolmitriptan 2.5 mg. The inactive ingredients in each tablet are: Lactose anhydrous, Cellulose microcrystalline, Sodium Starch Glycolate type A, Magnesium Stearate, Hypromellose, Titanium dioxide (E 171), Macrogol 400, Macrogol 8000, and Iron Oxide Yellow (E172).

Few people experience unpleasant side effects when using Zolmitriptan. They include:
